Motortronics™ MVC4 Medium Voltage Soft Starter is an advanced ANSI-rated solution engineered for controlled starting and stopping of large AC motors in demanding industrial environments. Motortronics develops solid-state AC motor control and protection technologies for industrial applications, with product solutions covering low-voltage and medium-voltage motor control, motor protection, electronic braking and related power-control equipment.

The MVC4 is particularly suitable for fixed-speed medium-voltage motors where direct-on-line starting can generate excessive starting current, mechanical shock and stress on electrical infrastructure. The system provides smooth, stepless acceleration and deceleration while improving motor and equipment protection.

Key Technical Specifications

The MVC4 supports supply voltages including 2,300 V, 3,300 V, 4,160 V, 6,000/7,200 V and 11–15 kV, with applications up to 20,000 HP.

Advanced Technology for Safety and Reliability

One of the most important advantages of the MVC4 is True Thermal Modeling. The control system continuously evaluates thermal conditions associated with motor starting, operation and overload, using non-volatile memory to retain critical thermal information. This provides an additional level of protection for high-value MV motors.

The SCR power circuit uses matched SCR modules according to voltage rating, while integrated dv/dt transient protection helps protect the power electronics. The standard vacuum bypass contactor also allows the starter to transition to normal running operation efficiently.

The MVC4 provides programmable current limiting from 200–600% of motor FLA, acceleration time from 1–120 seconds, dual ramp settings and custom torque/time curves. These functions make it possible to optimize starting characteristics for pumps, compressors, conveyors, fans and other high-inertia machinery.
