Industrial Camera & Thermovision for Steel Production

Steel production involves extremely high temperatures, dust, vibration, flames and potentially dangerous molten metal. Conventional visual inspection can therefore be difficult and unsafe. PIEPER combines high-resolution industrial cameras, thermal imaging cameras, furnace cameras, furnace probes and intelligent video analysis to provide operators with real-time information from critical production areas.

Typical applications include blast furnaces, converters, ladle monitoring, continuous casting, hot rolling mills, coking plants and galvanizing lines. In continuous casting, for example, thermographic cameras can monitor strand temperature distribution and provide early indications of cracks or local molten-steel leaks.

PIEPER Product & Technology Overview

The FRS furnace probes can be customized in different lengths and diameters, with options including integrated illumination, rotatable construction, axial/radial viewing, stainless-steel or special-alloy jackets and ATEX versions. Probe lengths can reach up to 10 m.

Advanced Safety for Extreme Industrial Applications

One of PIEPER's major strengths is its ability to combine visual images and thermal information with process-control systems. This allows operators to monitor dangerous areas remotely instead of being continuously exposed to high-temperature environments. The system can also support early identification of abnormal conditions, reducing the risk of accidents and unplanned production downtime.

For ladle monitoring, PIEPER's thermal solution uses smart thermal cameras with 640 × 480 resolution, 40 mK NETD, integrated web server, motorized focus, PoE connectivity and IP65/NEMA4 industrial housing. The system is designed to identify problematic areas and potentially prevent dangerous break-outs.
